DAN PITTS, Psy.D.

He/Him

I aim for therapy with me to feel collaborative. As a practitioner grounded in principles of Person-Centered therapy and cultural humility, I strive to support you in recognizing your values and motivations for whatever change you are seeking, and in building your personal life worth living. This can involve being very straightforward and challenging you when needed, but I believe that even this must be rooted in a validating, understanding therapeutic relationship. I can be very practical, both as a therapist and as a person, and enjoy working with clients to build skills that will help you "ride the waves" of your emotions or life's difficulties. I most often draw on techniques from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I focus on working with queer clients, elders, and individuals dealing with trauma, interpersonal difficulties (especially difficulty around assertiveness), self-injury, or substance abuse. I also work with grief and loss in many forms, including bereavement, life transitions, end-of-life concerns, and ambiguous loss. I have a subspecialty in forensic psychology, so I am familiar with working with people who are or have previously been, involved with the legal system. It is my goal that as a client, you feel you have a safe and non-judgmental space from which to focus on the growth you want to see.
